GEMINI

The GEMINI project seeks to advance geothermal energy adoption throughout Ireland. Featuring five demonstration sites, GEMINI will highlight diverse applications of geothermal technology across various sectors.

September 2024 - September 2028

About the project

The GEMINI (Geothermal Energy Momentum on the Island of Ireland) project aims to drive geothermal energy adoption across Ireland and is supported by the PEACEPLUS Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

With five demonstration sites – a community sports centre, a net-zero training hub for social housing, a university campus and a water service provider – GEMINI will showcase diverse applications of geothermal technology.

The project will test real-world solutions to deliver clean, renewable heat and provide clear guidance on technical solutions, cost insights, governance, planning tools, procurement guidelines and business models. These resources will support the long-term growth of a sustainable, geothermal sector in Ireland.

The development of joint education, skills and training frameworks will ensure that accreditation of businesses and installers, drillers, etc., is recognised both across the island of Ireland, creating the necessary supply of technical expertise.

GEMINI will also create more equal opportunities for communities to contribute towards net-zero targets, while supporting sustainable development and improving our environment.
