Launch of online tool to assess suitability for EPC

11th July, 2017

Are you interested in Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) but unsure whether it might be an energy-savings model suitable to your building? Now you have the opportunity to find out in less than 5min, following the launch of an online assessment tool which was developed by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) as part of the EU-funded GuarantEE project.

EPC is a proven energy service model for financing energy modernization of buildings from guaranteed energy cost reductions. It allows building owners and facility managers to transfer technical risks to an energy service company (ESCO) based on performance guarantees which are contractually agreed between both parties. The online EPC tool now helps building owners and facility managers in taking the first step towards an EPC by determining in less than 5min whether their building might be suitable. The assessment asks simply questions about the project scope, conditions of buildings and facilities, energy costs, as well as organisational characteristics of the building. Following the completion of the questions, a first assessment is provided, displaying the energy efficiency options for the building. After completing the questions, one will receive a first assessment based on the given replies.

Making the decision to outsource a service and decide on an EPC is not always easy. It takes time and requires technical, financial and legal know-how. Luckily there are experienced, independent consultants available, so called EPC facilitators, who can help. Two decades of experience with EPC facilitators across Europe show that they are a crucial link between client and market. They have proven to speed up the process of identifying energy efficiency and cost savings. By using the tool they can also get in touch with an EPC facilitator.

The online assessment tool was developed as part of the GuarantEE project which aims to foster the use of Energy Performance Contracting in the public and private sector across Europe. The project is funded by the European Union's Horizon2020 research and innovation programme and the EPC tool will be used by the GuarantEE partners and made available in 14 languages.
