What you will do
Lead and deliver projects
- Lead and manage district heating projects, from feasibility stage through to implementation, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with energy and climate policy.
- Ensure high standards for project delivery, maintaining accuracy, quality, and compliance with industry standards and funding requirements.
- Be adaptable and resourceful, managing multiple projects, adjusting to changing priorities, and delivering results under tight deadlines.
Technical and strategic expertise
- Conduct technical and financial assessments for district heating networks, including heat mapping, demand assessments, energy modelling, and infrastructure design.
- Identify and assess renewable and waste heat sources, including data centres and industrial waste heat, wastewater treatment plants, and geothermal energy, to maximise low-carbon heat potential.
- Undertake site visits and audits to identify potential heat sources and demands, network routes, and suitable locations for energy centres.
- Provide technical expertise on policy, regulations, and planning processes related to district heating and energy infrastructure.
Stakeholder engagement and collaboration
- Engage with stakeholders, including local authorities, government agencies, industry partners, and community groups, to progress district heating initiatives and secure project support.
- Build and maintain strong relationships, acting as a key point of contact for public and private sector partners for district heating projects.
- Represent Codema at industry events, working groups, and policy discussions, advocating for district heating as a key climate solution.
- Deliver workshops and presentations to upskill colleagues and external stakeholders on district heating technologies and best practices.
- Manage and mentor junior staff, providing guidance and supporting professional development within the team
Minimum requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a technical role on large-scale heating systems, building services, or relevant low-carbon energy projects (district heating experience in a technical OR commercial operations role is desirable, but not a requirement).
- Relevant Honours Degree in Mechanical, Energy or Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or a related field (NFQ Level 7 or 8).
- Proven experience leading multiple projects or work packages, delivering projects on time and within budget, and adapting to changing project requirements.
- Experience conducting on-site engineering audits of heating and cooling systems, assessing system capacity, temperatures, age, and efficiency.
- Ability to manage and mentor junior staff, supporting their development and contributing to team and company goals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with clients, stakeholders, and policymakers.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills, with a track record of building relationships and securing agreements.
- Excellent technical report writing skills, with attention to detail to ensure high-quality outputs and compliance with industry standards.
- Passionate about addressing climate change, with a commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.
- Fluency in English (essential).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (essential).
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to proactively address challenges and develop innovative solutions.
- Full Irish driving licence with access to a vehicle
- Demonstrated ability to learn on the job and adapt to new challenges.
Additional skills that would be a distinct advantage
- Master’s degree (NFQ Level 9) relevant to engineering, science, climate, or energy.
- Certified CIBSE Heat Networks Consultant.
- Geographical Information System (GIS) skills.
- Experience using energy modelling software such as energyPro or nPro to undertake techno-economic/financial analysis.
- Experience working with public sector organisations, such as local authorities.
- Project management qualifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
- Spatial energy or heat planning experience.
- Knowledge of the Irish Public Sector Infrastructure Guidelines.
- Strong understanding of Irish energy policy, local authority planning practices, and county development plans.

Location
The Codema office is located at The Loft, 2 – 4 Crown Alley, Temple Bar, Dublin 2 and is only accessible via a staircase. The office is centrally located and accessible by a range of sustainable transport modes. Secure bicycle parking is available on-site and off-site in nearby public parking facility.
