REGEN consortium meeting in Dublin

We were delighted to host the latest consortium meeting for the European REGEN project on the 22nd and 23rd of October. REGEN (the REGENeration of Neighbourhoods Towards a Low-Carbon, Inclusive, and Affordable Built Environment) brings together innovators and city leaders focused on transforming urban spaces into sustainable, inclusive communities.

Day 1: A Warm Welcome and Insightful Presentations at Dublin’s Historic City Hall

The event began with a warm welcome from James Geoghegan, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, alongside representatives from Dublin City Council. Donna Gartland, CEO of Codema, and Fergal Purcell, CEO of Arden Energy, also welcomed the REGEN partners as they gathered in Dublin’s iconic City Hall building.

Highlights of the day included several impactful presentations:

  • Opengela Program: Led by Joserra López from Energiaren Euskal Erakundea (Ente Vasco de la Energía), this session introduced the Opengela programme, which aims to enhance community engagement and energy efficiency. A big thank you to Joserra for their invaluable insights!
  • WP2 Workshop: A deep dive into interventions, tools, and assessments, showcasing early results and outlining future strategies. This session was led by experts from IES Ltd., TECNALIA Research & Innovation, Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), and NOBATEK/INEF4.
  • WP3 Demo Sites: Covering the progress of four demo sites—Beckerich, Laredo, Milan, and Dublin – this session focused on diagnosing needs, establishing baselines, and creating action plans, spearheaded by TECNALIA Research & Innovation.

The afternoon took participants on a guided tour of the Dublin Waste-to-Energy Plant in Poolbeg. The day concluded with a general assembly, where consortium members reflected on progress and discussed next steps.

Day 2: Connecting with Ringsend’s Community and Visiting Dublin City’s Decarbonising Zone

The second day offered an opportunity for consortium members to connect with the local community in Ringsend, one of Dublin’s focal points for sustainable urban regeneration.

The agenda included:

  • A Warm Reception at Fair Play Café: Joe Donnelly, owner of the café and a member of the Ringsend and Irishtown Sustainable Energy Community, welcomed participants to the area.
  • Guided Tour of Ringsend and Irishtown: Highlights included a visit to the Climate and Energy Office from Dublin City Council, a trip to Clanna Gael Fontenoy GAA Club, and a scenic walk through Sean Moore Park.

The day also featured the following workshops:
