Energy planning, policy and research

Leading the way in energy master-planning, energy policy and evidence based research.

Overview

To create a better, livable, more energy efficient Dublin, we need to start with how we plan the city. Each area is unique, with different characteristics and different needs – by making energy an essential factor in spatial planning processes, we can find solutions that benefit communities and make Dublin a better place to live.

Codema is Ireland’s leading expert in spatial energy master-planning, demonstrating how energy considerations can be incorporated into local-level planning processes. Our skilled team provides insight and advice on climate and energy policy, highlighting the best pathways, solutions and technologies to meet our energy and climate goals.

Policy and knowledge advice

Our policy advice is grounded at a local and regional level, with the current and future needs of the energy and climate transition for Dublin its core. We understand the relationship between national and EU policy, the climate and energy solutions available, and what this means for Dublin.

Our work includes participation in policy consultations and policy advisory groups, provision of policy and knowledge advisory support, and briefings to our key stakeholders in Dublin, including the four Dublin Local Authorities.

Energy planning and modelling

Each area across Dublin has its own set of needs and characteristics, which means different solutions will be needed in different communities. Spatial energy planning is built on evidence-based forward planning, which ensures each area has the required infrastructure in place to serve both new and existing developments with low-carbon and low-cost technologies.

Codema’s key energy modelling project, the Dublin Region Energy Master Plan – the first of its kind in Ireland – is a prime example of how spatial energy planning can provide realistic pathways to our energy transition.
