27 Energy Performance Contract Projects Implemented Through EESI 2020

18th April, 2016

A total of 27 Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) projects with average energy cost savings of 30 per cent have been successfully implemented across Europe as a result of the EESI 2020 initiative which finishes at the end of this month.

The international consortium from nine European countries successfully supported pilot projects in Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Norway, Bulgaria, Belgium, Spain and Croatia to reach the milestone of a signed energy performance contract which guarantees that the projected energy and cost savings will be delivered and maintained over time in a building.

In Dublin, the first public EPC project in Ireland has been tendered successfully by Dublin City Counciil and Codema and the contract is expected to be signed in April 2016.

As a result of the energy-saving measures and renewable energy generation from these pilot projects, a total saving of more than 16,000 tonnes of CO2 is being achieved per year.  More than €26M was invested across these pilot projects for the implementation of energy saving and renewable energy measures within EESI 2020.

The pilot projects include the installation of a PV system and an improved heating system in police department buildings in Brandenburg, Germany, installation of energy-efficient lighting and a heating control system in a large historical building housing the concert hall and offices of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, improved lighting and retrofitting of the heating system in a high-performance sports centre in Barcelona and the energy reconstruction of a primary school building in Croatia.
